BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is another fine production by BMW. This vehicle is very much similar to hatchback 5 Series but only diverse in its somewhat elevated seating position. It is specifically constructed to provide more comfort and room for back passengers as compared to the saloon.
It is placed as a high-spec flagship substitute for the ordinary luxury SUVs and is only accessible with power-packed 3.0 litre petrol and diesel six cylinder engines, plus 4.4 litre V8 twin turbo petrol which is somehow expensive.
Although in a hurry to chase the productive fleet market, BMW has now revealed another masterpiece from the standard range, named as the 520d GT having proficient four cylinder diesel engine.
This vehicle holds the resemblance with BMW 5 Series and just like that, the Gran Turismo was launched for the first time in 2013 along with gentle updates which include a redesigned but this time extended tailgate just to enhance the boot volume.
You won’t be saddened by the performance, that’s for sure. Even the entrance-level 520d has smart figures of 183bhp and does 0-62mph in almost 8.9 seconds, whereas the top-spec 550i has a strong 442bhp 4.4-litre V8 engine and does 0-62mph in just 5.0 seconds, so it actually depends on how much you desire to spend. All models get a dazzling eight-speed auto gearbox too.
The GT seems a little bit more ponderous around the corners than the basic 5 Series. But all thanks mainly to its lifted ride and significant additional weight which shifts around easily in tighter turns. It’s not relatively as comfortable either, sensing a bit twitchier over small bumps.
The M Sport models acquire larger alloys and look the part, but they are even more rough and uncomfortable. That said, all of the engines are so effortless and smooth and noise of wind is so well insulated that the 5 GT is yet an excellent way of covering long distances along with very little discomfort. Nevertheless with the 5 Series Touring being economical and equally skilled of taking long journeys in its pace the GT does still seem slightly superfluous.
No one can deny the efforts of BMW Company in terms of safety of its vehicles. Features like head-up display is present which does not let you take your eyes off the road and BMW adaptive cruise control is also accessible as an option.
If we consider the reliability of this vehicle, it uses identical running gears to 5 and 7 Series which are known for best track records and serve as a proof that this vehicle is indeed reliable.
