There were only touring and saloon models offered by the automaker in the 3 series but BMW has decided to merge the performance with the practicality, not simply by offering the larger BMW 3 series engines but by merging the Gran Turismo in to an estate.
The new modified model of the BMW 3-series has an excellent outlook, longer body than it’s any other models with an increased wheel base and massive boot of 1,600 litres. It has an increased capacity of more than 500 litres because of a longer wheel base offering.
What you will say about the loading capacity of a standard estate which has a load bay of under 500 litres and a BMW 3-series gran Turismo with 1600 litres of load bay with rear seats folded. The engines are also impressive with both diesel and petrol options offered.
There is a great mix of both diesel and petrol engines offered with a choice of both six and eight speed gearboxes. Eight speed gearboxes are automatic while six speed boxes are manually operated.
For a GT look and improved aerodynamics, there is an active rear spoiler offered on the 3 series Gran Turismo. The 320i is the first model that gets BMW petrol engines and it has a capacity to reach the 62 miles per hour sprint in just under eight seconds. On the petrol line-up, the flagship is a 335i with V6 engine and it gets to the 62 miles per hour point in 5.4 seconds.
On the other hand diesel engines start from 318d models and there is a choice for economy watchers where it delivers more than 60 miles per gallon of fuel economy. The second to none diesel engine is BMW 320d diesel engine, with both economy and power at the same time.
Let’s start from the entry level 2.0 litre engine; it’s a four cylinder engine that cranks 184 bhp in BMW 320i models. Particularly, it is not a powerful engine at all when you are looking to overtake on the motorway speed so, simply keep calm and don’t change your lane.
It takes just under ten seconds to reach the benchmark speed of 62 miles per hour but you can opt for both six speed manual gearbox and an eight speed automatic gearbox. You can get a similar maximum of 142.5 miles per hour from any of these transmissions.
There is a 2.0 litre engine in 328i with 245bhp and has an electronically top speed of 155 miles per hour. Flagship petrol engine is a 3.0 litre with 304bhp of power and in the 335i it takes only 5.7 seconds
The flagship petrol engine is the six-cylinder 3.0-litre with an output of 304bhp. This is called the 335i, and will get from zero to 62mph in 5.7 seconds when mated to the six-speed manual gearbox or 5.4 seconds when mated to the optional eight-speed automatic gearbox.
