BMW is the most important German vehicle manufacturer, with headquarters in Munich. In terms of dependability and technology, all of the vehicles are immaculate. All of BMW’s series is excellent, but the 2 Series is the one I’m most interested in. The BMW 2 Series Coupe has been a hit for the German manufacturer up to this point.
Critics have praised the way it drives, but customers just like the way it looks. It builds on the phenomenal success of the 1 Series by utilizing the same underpinnings but in a sleek, two-door coupe body.
The base M Sport trim level has several notable characteristics. 18-inch alloy wheels, M Sport suspension, a powerful sporty body package, and chrome tailpipes are all included. Comfortable sports seats, fabric and Alcan Tara upholstery, a multifunction leather steering wheel, and a scattering of M badging around the car complete the package.
It also has BMW’s Drive Performance Control, which allows the driver to tailor the car’s characteristics to their specific needs at any given time. The switch, which is placed next to the gear lever, allows you to choose between ECO PRO (the most efficient mode), Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. The steering weighting, rapid throttle response, adaptive suspension stiffness (where equipped), and (when the auto ‘box is introduced – standard on the 225d) the pace of the gearbox’s shifts are all factors that can be fine-tuned.
If we were, to sum up, this car in a single word, it would be outstanding. The strong BMW 2.0-litre engine, which produces 215bhp and 450Nm of torque, allows for a 0-62mph time of under 6.3 seconds and a peak speed of 150mph. On the road, it feels just as speedy, with linear acceleration and strong mid-range pulling power. It isn’t the most pleasant-sounding engine on the earth, but it is a diesel characteristic that we can deal with given the lower operating expenses than a patrol vehicle.
While BMW promises a fuel efficiency of over 60.1mpg, we averaged 45mpg without even thinking about it throughout our stay with the car. We believe 50mpg is readily achievable if you concentrate just a little more, so it is not awful on gasoline at all considering the car’s rapid sporty nature. The eight-speed gearbox was another promising aspect of the 225d that we liked a lot.
This makes the car incredibly flexible because the shifts are smooth, pleasant, and practically imperceptible while driving normally, but sharpen up dramatically when in Sport or Sport+ mode. We particularly appreciated the paddle-shifters, which in this world of cheap-feeling plastic objects were pleasantly high-quality. They’re made of a heavier metal, which makes a noticeable difference while you’re using them. It contributes to the car’s luxury feel. Handling is fantastic, as it usually is with the 2 Series.
Thanks to its clever front-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup, it turns well and has intuitive and quick handling. While the adaptive suspension, which is likely to cost an additional £515, we believe it is a good fit for the intelligent transmission since it allows the car to display dramatically varied characteristics depending on the driver’s preferences. The ride quality is decent in Comfort mode, but the body-roll and handling precision in Sport or Sport+ mode is unrivalled in this segment. To summarise, the BMW 225d, with its powerful engine, smooth ride, and cutting-edge electronics, is a desirable alternative.
The BMW 2 Series is longer, wider, and roomier than its predecessor, the 1 Series coupé, and it is more attractive, sleek, and proportionate in every way. Given the minor increase in size, the 2 Series’ beautiful external lines, vents, and angles blend more harmoniously. The 225d’s relatively large nose, arched top, and stubby back result in typical sports-coupé proportions, while also managing to mini-me’ the extremely polished 4 Series coupé.
The BMW 225d M Sport is a gorgeous automobile from every perspective, measuring 4432mm in length, 1984mm in width, 1418mm in height, and weighing 1420kg. With a wheelbase of 2660mm and a baggage capacity of 350 litres, this car will not disappoint you in terms of practicality.
The new BMW 225d’s cabin is designed with the driver in mind, with gauges and buttons positioned for simple and undemanding access. It’s a straightforward, useful design that’s made more appealing by the effective use of high-end materials. The entire 2 Series seems more mature than the 1 Series coupé it replaces, thanks in part to a far more relaxed and comfortable cabin that’s suited for extended highway drives.
The current all-new 2 Series line-up features four kit categories for this monster: Sport, SE, Modern, and M Sport, as tested here. The M Sport contains more toys than a five-year-old can handle, but here are a few highlights: Dynamic stability control, adaptive headlights, front and rear parking sensors with back camera, automatic lights and wipers, and Drive Performance Control (EcoPro, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes).
The test car also came with the eye-catching BMW 8-speed automatic transmission with flappy paddles, complete leather interior, run-flat tyres, adaptive M Sport suspension, Harmon Kardon hi-fi, variable sport steering, and the BMW media professional package.
