It is a wise saying that “beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder” but have you ever thought that you cannot hide the beauty that you have; same is the case of BMW 1 series hatchback. It is a beautiful car in the BMW small car line-up and BMW fans believe that it is a seriously beautiful hatch.
The 1 series has round rear and long muscular front end and the rear gives an impression if it had been poked with a stick. This second generation is even better with a bunch of BMW 1 series engines and an exclusively altered interior as well.
The 1 series offers a range of new features including a group of five engines, upgraded interior, redesigned dashboard and a great feeling of luxury than all its old generations.
There is an ever impressive engine line-up which consists of efficient, fuel economical and clean engines offered for the first time. BMW petrol engines are exclusively refined for pace and diesel engines for some clean and muscular performance on the road.
There are five diesel and petrol engines all to gather in the new 1 series engine line-up but if you are looking for the most impressive engine then what can be the best other than a diesel engine? It is the 2.0-litre diesel engine fitted in the BMW 120d. It is a capable engine with a power delivery of 184bhp and can take the 1 series from standstill to 62 miles per hour in just over 7 seconds. The claimed fuel economy is also impressive with around 65 miles per gallon.
As BMW has given the 1 series massive refreshment, the practicality has also been improved with a new range of performance gadgets. It has an improved shape and all the features of Efficient Dynamics technology that guarantee the performance with practicality.
BMW for the first time has introduced a twin turbocharger four cylinder engine in any of its hatchback models. The 1 series has similar kind of twin turbo four cylinder petrol engine in 116i. This engine is capable of generating 136bhp and 220Nm of torque while it can reach to 62 miles in just over 8 seconds. Top speed is capped at 130 miles per hour. BMW 118i has a 170bhp engine with a zero to 62 miles time of 7.2 seconds, much better than the 116i engine. With the pulling power of 250Nm, its top speed is 140 miles per hour.
As we discussed that the diesel engine line-up of 1 series is refined yet efficient and we have discussed the 120d engine too, but there are two more models with diesel engines offered. An entry level 116d and a bit faster 118d, have zero to 62 miles per hour sprint time of 10.3 seconds and 8.9 seconds and the top speeds of 124mph and 132mph respectively. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available across the 1 series and both options have better fuel economy than the previous generations.
