The new promotions of the models from German automaker are focusing on 3-cylinder BMW engines, four-cylinders on the front wheel drive platform and definitely the EfficientDynamics by BMW.
BMW has not officially revealed it but several promotional videos by the automaker are focused on these new gadgets. The 3-cylinder engine has also been revealed in a promotional video despite having officially confirmed.
BMW is promoting the engine line-up under the title of ‘The new BMW EfficientDynamics Engine family’ and the majority of promotional videos are based on the computer animations.
This video shows, how a BMW robot worker gets a command to create a 3-cylinder engine for its new model and it effectively cuts down the 6-cylinder engine in two equal units and installed it into the new model. The straight six units are not ditched by the automaker but limited their use in the specific models.
The new under promotion unit is a 1.5-litre twin turbocharged engine and it has a 500cc engine cylinder design. However, it is expected that the new BMW engines will have the standard 500cc cylinder sizes on all smaller or larger engines.
New engines will also benefit from valvetronic Technology for variable valve timing for high-pressure fuel injection. There is also a double sided or even a single turbocharger on several models. There will be 2.0-litre engines with four cylinders to make up the similar modular components.
New models are already using 3-cylinder engines and they are performing very well since 2013 but the story will definitely be different in coming years.
